Ruby Jean Seal Biography

Ruby Jean Seal

Ruby Jean Seals was the wife of Jim Seals, one half of the popular soft rock duo Seals & Crofts from the 1970s. Sadly, Jim passed away on June 7, 2022, at the age of 80. Ruby, born as Ruby Jean Anderson, married Jim in 1970, and together they had three children, Joshua, Juliette, and Sutherland, all of whom are musicians.

Ruby preferred to stay out of the limelight, so not much is known about her personal life. Jim Seals, on the other hand, was born in Sidney, Texas, in 1941. Before forming Seals & Crofts, he was a one-time member of The Champs and also toured with Eddie Cochran. He later joined forces with Glen Campbell to form Glen Campbell and the GCs, with Seals and Crofts both part of the band.

Seals & Crofts released their first album with their new label, which did not chart. However, their second album, “Summer Breeze,” was a major hit, reaching #7 on the charts in 1972 and selling over a million copies. The album’s title track also became a hit, reaching #6 in the US and #16 in Australia that same year.

Although the duo disbanded in 1980, they briefly reunited in 1991-1992 and again in 2004 to release their final album, “Traces.” Jim Seals was also a public advocate of the Bahá’í Faith and the brother of “England” Dan Seals, who was part of the duo England Dan & John Ford Coley.

In summary, Ruby Jean Seals was the wife of Jim Seals, a talented musician who was part of the successful duo Seals & Crofts. Although Ruby preferred to remain out of the public eye, she and Jim had a family of three musically talented children.
