2025 APICA Summer Internship Program for International Students
APICA Summer Internship Program is to provide college students and recent graduates who are dedicated to public service a substantive, meaningful work and educational experience in the California State Legislature, to create and promote a growing cohort of Capitol staffers and advocates.
The Asian Pacific Islander Capitol Association (APICA) is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of legislative staffers, advocates, and other API professionals based in the State Capitol community of Sacramento, California.

Requirements:
Current college student or recent graduate who is at least 21 years old at the time the internship begins.
Available to work full-time for the duration of the 10-week internship program.
Duration and Reward
- Interns receive a stipend of $4,960 for the ten weeks. These funds will be provided twice a month, contingent on the successful completion of the program and its academic components.
- Week-long orientation, professional and skill development sessions, dedicated mentorship, and access to the APICA network of staff and elected officials

Selection Process
- Application deadline: February 24, 20,23 at 11:59 pm PST.
- Virtual interviews for select candidates: Friday, March 31 to Friday, April 7, 2025.
- Acceptance notification: Monday, April 10th, 2025.
- Internship start date: Monday, June 19th, 2025.
- Internship end date: Friday, August 25th, 2025.
- There is an optional extension for interns seeking employment in the Capitol community, subject to agreement with the host office and the APICA board.

Who is eligible to apply?
Eligibility: Open to current college students or recent graduates (must be at least 21 years old by program start).
International students are welcome; however, APICA does not sponsor visas APICA. You’ll need your own valid authorization to intern in the U.S.
What’s the application deadline and key program dates?
Deadline: Extended to Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:59 PM PST.
Interview window: April 11–19, 2025.
Acceptance notifications: Slated for May 2, 2025.
Internship period: June 23 to August 29, 2025, with optional extensions in consultation with host offices and APICA board.
What are the required application materials?

Personal Statement (1 page, 12‑point Times New Roman, 1″ margins, double‑spaced).
Policy Interest Statement (same formatting), explaining your passion for public policy and desire to work in California’s State Capitol.
Is there a stipend or other benefits?
Stipend: You’ll receive a modest stipend (around $4,960 over 10 weeks, paid bi‑monthly).
Professional development: Includes orientation, mentorship, networking with elected officials, and skill-building sessions.
How does the selection process work?
After the application deadline, select candidates are invited to virtual interviews between April 11–19, 2025.
Final offers go out on May 2, 2025 .
Program runs June 23–August 29, 2025, with possible extension at your host’s discretion
