American Legend rapper, Earl Stevens popularly known as E-40 has been awarded an Honourary Doctorate Degree in Music by Grambling State University in Louisiana, United States.
E-40 was once a student of the Historically Black College and University (HBCU). He attended the institution for a year in 1986 before his rise to fame and has since remained close to the school.
In February 2023, E-40 was reported to have made huge donations to the institution o the tune of $100,000. “Proud to be in a position to give back to my alma mater @Grambling1901 and invest in the next generation of young talented musicians at the University,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
According to a statement by the university in February, the funds will benefit the Music department, the World Famed Tiger Marching Band, and the upkeep of the newly installed recording studio.
The President of Grambling State University (GSU), Rick Gallot, expressed the university’s gratitude to E-40 for his generous donations.
“Grambling State is incredibly grateful for Mr. Stevens’ appearance at the university and especially his donation. It’s gifts like this from our alumni and supporters that are the driving force that keep the university moving forward and creating bigger and better futures for our students,” he stated.
GSU further showed their appreciation by granting E-40 an honorary doctorate degree in Music which he received in Louisiana, United States.
“He is very genuine, and I knew that from the moment that I spoke to him. He said he wanted to do something special for Grambling State University and I want my contribution to be meaningful and we started to discuss the sound-recording technology program,” Roebuck described E-40’s efforts in the university’s statement.
