Nigerian star music producer and Disk Jockey (DJ), Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy has earned a Master’s degree in African Studies from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

DJ Cuppy studied at the University of Oxford between 2021 and 2022 and had previously earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from King’s College London.

Before enrolling for a Master’s degree at the University of Oxford, DJ Cuppy already holds a Master’s degree in Music Business which she earned from New York University in 2015.

Celebrating her second Master’s degree from the University of Oxford, DJ Cuppy posted images of her graduation ceremony on Twitter with the caption saying;

“Third Degree HOTTER! 🔥🎓
I’m now officially a “Master of Science” from Oxford University”.

She also donated a sum of £100,000 ($125,000) to the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) to support African graduate students studying at the University of Oxford in the UK.

In a statement by the University of Oxford, the funds donated by the Cuppy Africa Oxford Scholar Funds will support African graduate students at the University to meet unexpected and urgent financial needs and undertake activities that will ensure the pursuit of excellence in their graduate studies.

In her speech, Cuppy expressed that she is proud to be able to partner with the University of Oxford to empower future generations.

“I am so proud of this partnership that not only extends my relationship with Oxford University but empowers future generations to come,” she said.

“Having just graduated with an MSc degree in African Studies myself, I saw first-hand the variances in university life experiences for students originating from my continent, Africa. The Cuppy Fund’s fundamental role is to narrow resource gaps for those who need it the most so they can fully commit to pursuing the education they deserve. The opportunity to study at Oxford is an accomplishment but one fully realized when you can complete your course,” Cuppy added.

Dr. Anne Makena, Co-Director of the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx), at the University of Oxford, said the university is delighted that Cuppy is supporting other African graduate students in Oxford.

“We both share the experience of being African graduate students at Oxford and it is a great honor for AfOx to partner with Cuppy to address some of the unique challenges that African students might encounter during their time in Oxford,” she said.

“The Cuppy Africa Oxford Scholars Fund will help to ensure that they have access to the best possible support to navigate and succeed at Oxford, and continue to remarkable careers as champions of development in African countries and globally,” Dr Anne Makena added.
